New owner for Tara's

Local music promoter Danny Deutsch recently purchased the building that formerly housed Tara Cocktail Lounge on Liberty Pole Way. Now in the process of remodeling, he plans to open a new venue, Abilene, in early January. He got the name from his favorite song sung by Dave Alvin.

The building is a great downtown location. A stand-alone brick, behind the old Sibley's and across from Harro East, it has two floors and a large outdoor patio. A convenient 20-space parking lot is beside it.

Deutsch plans to stock the bar with American craft beers. Although live music on the second floor won't come until later, the diverse music he is known for will be piped out of a great sound system.

This goes full circle- I'm pretty sure Danny and I looked at Tara back in the early eighties- I remember it had a white piano bar wrapped around the piano! Looking forward to the opening.

Thanks for the plug, Dale. Everything you've written is correct, except the tune "Abilene" was written by another great Dave, Dave Alvin. Thanks again...and we'll be seeing you in January!

Hey Danny,
Good luck with you new venture. I wish you all the best with it.

When you are ready for local bands, check out Crossfyre. Been around a long time and are great to work with.
Check the website and let me know if you want a demo disk, audition, or whatever. I'd be glad to stop by once you're up and running. I think our stuff would fit in your vision very easily.
Thanks.

This place sounds like it has good potential. I particularly like the sound of craft beers being served.

From urbandictionary.com

bar pie

1. A small, single-serving pizza, most often between eight to ten inches in diameter and with a thin crust, which is purchased and eaten at a tavern, bar, or other establishment which typically sells more liquor than food.

2. Any small pizza-like foodstuff ordered and eaten at a bar. Though some places make their bar pies to order and serve them fresh from the oven, at many lower-class joints a little frozen pizza is simply thrown into the microwave. In these cases, though, the poor quality and lack of any resemblance to a "real" pizza is often overlooked due to the typically intoxicated state of the consumer.
