Re: Laurence Britt's letter about Zero Tolerance (The Mail, March 4): I wish Britt lived in the Dewey Avenue - Maplewood Park area like I do. What would he say about the 15 to 20 teens hanging on the corner of Magee and Dewey - teens with their hats on backwards over their do-rags - giving you "the look" as you drive by?

I wish I could drive in my neighborhood of 65 years without seeing people walking in the street and playing basketball in the street and not moving until they score a basket. And then asking, "What are you looking at?"

If Mr. Britt wants to work with youths who have lost their way (his words), he can move into the city by me, where there are approximately 10 to 12 houses for sale on one street alone. He can move right in and respect the dignity and rights of all my neighbors (his words again).

The tragic crime problem he wants to address won't be solved by anyone living out in Pleasant Valley, aka Fairport.

As for nobody being safer (his words) with aggressive police tactics: They make me feel safer, and maybe this summer I can sit on my front porch after my workday and drink a beer. Don't I have that right?

So Mr. Britt, c'mon on down to Dewey Avenue and shoot a few baskets, listen to Snoop Doggy Dog, and chill. Who knows? You might like it.

As for how much policemen earn: What do you think Officer DiPonzio should make this year?
