Electronics recycling
The Seneca Park Zoo will hold its "Go Green-Recycle Rally" for home electronics on Sunday, August 10, in the zoo's parking lot, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment is necessary, but there is a $5 fee for recycling computer monitors and TV screens, and $1 for batteries.
Protecting the Great Lakes
The Central Library is hosting "Great Lakes Water Concerns," an interactive exhibit that looks at tap water vs. bottled water, wetlands, how lakes receive nutrients, and the ecological health of the lakes. The display will be on view through Friday, August 29, at 115 South Avenue.
Elections inspectors needed
The Board of Elections is looking for elections inspectors. The inspectors are paid for hours worked and training. Information: Monroe County Board of Elections, 39 West Main Street, or 753-1550.
Peace vigils
Peace advocates will hold two Bring Home the Troops vigils on Tuesday, August 12. One vigil is in front of the First Unitarian Church, 220 South Winton Road, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The other is at the corner of Fitzhugh and Broad Street from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Parent and teacher training
The Rochester city school district, RTA,and BENTE will hold "Together We Can - Let's Jump Start the School Year," a workshop that deals with child and student discipline, connecting with children, and working with disaffected youth on Saturday, August 9, at the Wilson Foundation Academy, 200 Genesee Street, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Help the troops
The Vetri Group and Park Ave Optical are sponsoring a care package drive for items needed by the A Company 179 Infantry serving in Iraq. The drive lasts through Friday, August 15.
