This week's calls to action include the following events and activities. (All are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.)

Obama central

Rochester for Obama will hold two events on Thursday, July 31. The first is an open house for volunteers at 51 Mortimer Street from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. A fund raiser for local delegates will follow at 519 Post Avenue. Suggested donation: $10. Information: 943-3726.

Turn it down

Rochester Soundscape Society meets the second Thursday of every month at the Maplewood Library, 1111 Dewey Avenue, at 6:30 p.m. Urban noise pollution will be discussed at the August 6 meeting.

Teen power

The Downtown Community Forum will host the Metro Council for Teen Potential annual meeting on Tuesday, August 5. "Positive Peer Pressure" is the topic and youth-created messages will be presented by In Control, the Rochester City School District, HEART Coalition, Youth Voice One Vision, and other community agencies. The program will be held at St. Mary's Church, 15 St. Mary's Place, from 8:30 to 10:15 p.m. RSVP: 325-8123.

Meet your neighbors

Upper Mt. Hope Neighborhood Association members and residents are invited to participate in the National Night Out program on Tuesday, August 5, at Eastmoreland Park at 6:30 pm.

Peace vigil

The Rochester chapter of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship will hold a vigil on Monday, August 4, in front of the Federal Building, 100 State Street, from noon to 1 p.m.

Unaffordable prescription drugs

AARP will present "Prescription Drug Reform," a community roundtable to discuss how prescription drugs are marketed, why reforms have failed, and voting records of legislators on Tuesday, August 5, at Greece Town Hall, 1 Vince Tofany Boulevard, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Zero Tolerance; what now?

The Downtown Community Forum will present "Zero Tolerance and Beyond" with Rochester Police Chief David Moore and District Attorney Mike Green on Wednesday, July 30, at St. Mary's Church, 15 St. Mary's Place, at 7 p.m.

Saturday peace walks

The Storefront Anti-War Crisis Center will hold "Rochester Walks for Peace." On four consecutive Saturdays, starting Saturday, August 2, citizens will walk through specific city neighborhoods to talk with residents and learn how the Iraq war is linked to economic conditions in our community. The walks begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Storefront, 658 Monroe Avenue, and conclude with a dinner at Downtown United Presbyterian Church. Information: 734-3441.

Help the community

Rochester AmeriCorps seeks individuals who want to earn college money while giving back to the community through youth development, violence prevention, education, and community organizing programs. Information: www.rochesteramericorps.org.
