Students against racism

The Princeton Prize in Race Relations was created to recognize the efforts of high-school students who have demonstrated a commitment to improving race relations. The top prize is $1,000 and the winning student is invited to make a presentation at Princeton University. High-school students throughout the Greater Rochester area are eligible. Applications are due by January 31, 2010, with the announcement of the winner in the spring. Information: www.princeton.edu/princetonprize.

Activist to appear

Environmental activist and writer Rebecca Solnit will give two readings in Rochester on Wednesday, November 4. She will appear at 4 p.m. at Writers and Books, 740 University Avenue, and read from her current work, "A Paradise Built in Hell: The Extraordinary Communities that Arise in Disaster." She will appear at 8 p.m. at RIT's Webb Auditorium.

Tour guide on climate change

Downtown Presbyterian Church will present "Climate Change: Its effect upon the Flora, Fauna, and Human Inhabitants of Equatorial Africa," a talk by Tanzania tour guide and ecologist Yusuf Hemed Ngaina at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, at 121 North Fitzhugh Street.

Teen pregnancy talk

Planned Parenthood of the Rochester/Syracuse Region will host a luncheon talk by Dr. Rachael Phelps, a nationally known expert on teen pregnancy prevention, at noon on Wednesday, November 4 at the Inn on Broadway, 26 Broadway (downtown).

Meet the real Anne Frank

MCC will present "Anne Frank: The Person Versus the Icon," a talk by Anne Frank expert Rebecca Erbelding at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, at the MCC Theatre, 1000 East Henrietta Road.

Shooting the breeze

Great Lakes Wind Network and Greater Rochester Enterprise present "Wind Supply Chain Workshop" on Tuesday, November 10, at the Hyatt Regency from 8 a.m. to noon. Cost: $50. Registration: Heidi Schmitt at 530-6204. Global trends, how to connect with the industry, wind turbines, and challenges for manufacturers will be discussed.

Marriage equality rally

The Civil Rights Front will hold a rally in support of Maine marriage-equality rights in at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, in front of the Federal Building on State Street.
