Geva Theatre today announced that it has received a $2 million grant from New York state for capital improvements on and restoration of the 141-year-old building that currently houses the theater. Per a press release, the funds will go toward replacing the New York State Aresenal Building's roof, cleaning and repairing the masonry, correcting some structural damage, upgrading the acoustics in the Mainstage, and improvements to the lobby restrooms, box office, and coatroom.
The money will also go toward the purchase of a new lighting board and curtains for the Mainstage, upgrading the heating and cooling systems, and upgrading behind-the-scenes spaces such as the costume and prop shops, offices, and green rooms.
No timeline for the improvements was given; check back for additional details as they become available.
