Man, it's about time. SLT is long gone from the Rochester scene, except for what fond memories burn in our fevered brains and black hearts. But after 15 years SLT's "Dirty Sleep" is here. This is quintessential punk rock; relentless, unrepentant, and profane. The sound is Heartbreaker sloppy and lyrically dark in a sort of post-beat Jim Carroll junkie kind of way. Matt Szabo's vocals are snide and sinister and the whole band swaggers like a hooker with a broken heel. It's pointless to pick single cuts out --- the whole goddamn record rocks. In the early 1990's, SLT was the type of band truly on a collision course with itself, which culminated in the untimely death of guitarist (and personal hero) Luke Warm in 1995. The band simply burned too hot and true to last. This is an absolutely essential record to own if you ever wonder what happened to our rock 'n' roll, and even if think you know the answer.
