Depression glass doesn't get you down when you look at it - unless, that is, you think back to when it was created. The cheap, often imperfect glassware was mass-produced during this country's Great Depression. Instead of being dark, murky, or nondescript, it was manufactured in bright pinks, greens, blues, or yellows. Though it was meant to lift one's spirits, in later years people were inclined to toss the stuff, since it was a reminder of hard times. Since so little of it remains, it's now a collectible. You can view the glassware, or purchase a piece of your own, this weekend, when the RMSC hosts the 32nd annual Depression Glass Show and Sale in the museum's Eisenhart Auditorium. The event takes place on Saturday, September 20, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, September 21, 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Admission costs $5. Go to rmsc.org, or call 271-4320 for more info.
