Ramadan is the month of fasting during which Muslims partake of food just twice a day - once when the sun rises, and once when it sets. Prayer is also a special focus during this time. The RMSC starts its series of multicultural holiday celebrations with "Traditions of Ramadan" Sunday, September 21, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The program includes a presentation called "Four Perfect Women of Islam," which teaches the traits and characteristics of these women, and shows how they relate to their modern day counterparts. Later that evening, at 6:45 p.m., the series continues with a live performance about the community's diverse traditions, presented by the Masjid of Al Islam. Go to rmsc.org, or call 271-4320 for more information. The Rochester Museum and Science Center is located at 657 East Avenue.
