Each year, Strong Museum honors creative toys with staying power by inducting them into its Toy Hall of Fame. Well known inductees include the Slinky, the Teddy Bear, alphabet blocks, Barbie, sidewalk chalk, and the Easy Bake Oven. But even the simplest objects, like the stick and the cardboard box, have made the cut. The museum recognizes that it's the imaginative child that makes a toy fun, and the toy itself that inspires the child.
Find out which of your favorite toys are being inducted this year during National Toy Hall of Fame Weekend. The celebration takes place Saturday, November 7 (10 a.m.-4 p.m.), and Sunday, November 8 (noon-4 p.m.), with special events including "Hula Hoopla" and a game of National Toy Hall of Fame Bingo. The Strong National Museum of Play is located at 1 Manhattan Square. Call 263-2700 or visit museumofplay.org.
