It may seem like the slew of summer festivals in Rochester is drawing to a close, but there's still time to get your festival on before fall officially arrives. The 8th Annual Sankofa Festival of the Arts is a celebration of African culture that will surely remedy anyone's end-of-the-summer blues.
The festival, taking place Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22, will feature jazz music, food, children's activities, an appearance by a Civil Rights bus and the premiere of four one-act plays by local authors. The plays will be staged at the Multi-use Community Cultural Center (MuCCC, 142 Atlantic Ave) Friday 7:30-10 p.m.; tickets cost $12.50-$15. Saturday's festivities go all day 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. at Village Gate (274 N. Goodman). For more information about the festival, call 271-7010 or visit muccc.org.

I am one of the performers with Frances Hare. I first attend the Sankofa Festival 3 years ago when we perform (Belly Dance). I was in totally surprise as to how many people was there and the amount of talent we have in Rochester.
This year I had a busy schedule, I was schedule to attend a wedding, perform at the festival and then attend the wedding reception. I was enjoying myself so much I did not want to leave. I made it appoint, that I will not put another event with this event.
The vendors are so nice and reasonable. The book store is a class of knowledge.
I have been in Rochester for the past 51 years and never heard of the Sankofa Fest, until I met Frances Hare. It's a shame, we have a black radio station and this event is not mention even on their station. Some flyers about this event should be passed out at the Clarissa Reunion. I hope next year you guy do not have the same date, because I do like the Clarissa Reunion also. There is no fighting at both, what a blessing.
Keep up the good work
