We leave so much behind as we go through life. Things like clothing, records, books, and photographs get lost or forgotten in hotel rooms, ex-lovers' apartments, offices, bars, and even random streets. But for hundreds of former patients at Willard Psychiatric Center, it's the contents of abandoned suitcases that tell their stories. When the center closed in 1995, the suitcases were discovered, and were eventually made part of the traveling exhibit "The Lives They Left Behind."
Though the suitcases themselves aren't on display, you can view photographs and text, as well as a video about the history of Willard through June 26 at the DePaul Center (1931 Buffalo Rd). You can also see the exhibit online, at suitcaseexhibit.org.
