You may first have encountered Branford Marsalis as the saxophonist for Sting, immortalized in the film "Bring on the Night." Or maybe it was during his short-lived early-1990's stint as bandleader on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno." But jazz fans have known for decades that the oldest son of New Orleans' Marsalis family can burn it up on saxophone with the best of them. He'll bring his excellent band - Joey Calderazzo (piano), Eric Revis (bass), and Jeff "Tain" Watts (drums) - to Rochester for the 13th Annual Inspiration Award Event presented by the Lifetime Assistance Foundation.

Branford Marsalis plays Sunday, October 18, 7 p.m. at Eastman Theatre, 60 Gibbs St. $35-$55. 232-1900, ticketmaster.com.
