MOVIE SCORE: The Wizard of Oz (5/3)

By Dale Evans on April 29, 2009

Sunday may as well be re-named Rochester's "Wizard of Oz" Day, as the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and George Eastman House present a day full of yellow brick road events. Beginning at 2 p.m., movies and music activities will generate the build up for the 3 p.m. concert by the RPO. While all the memorable voices will still be heard, the live orchestra will accompany the classic movie as it is projected onto a big screen. At 5:45 p.m. there's no place like home at the Eastman House, which offers up a gala serving an Oz-themed dinner, memorabilia showcases, and the Rochester premiere screening of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," author L. Frank Baum's 1910 silent film.

The RPO performs "The Wizard of Oz" Sunday, May 3, 3 p.m. at the Eastman Theatre, 60 Gibbs St. $18-$175. 274-1100, rpo.org.
