POST-ROCK: El Ten Eleven (11/23)

You'd be tempted to just close your eyes and let the atmospheric instrumentals whirl around you, but keep at least one of ‘em open to see how El Ten Eleven pulls it off. Armed with a doubleneck guitar/bass and a command center of effects pedals, Kristian Dunn and percussionist Tim Fogarty create experimental post-rock - think maybe Sigur Rós, or Explosions in the Sky - that is as thoughtful as it is unconstrained as it is satisfyingly accessible. Touring in support of its third record, "These Promises Are Being Videotaped," El Ten Eleven got a boost from prominent inclusion on the soundtrack to "Helvetica," which features over its closing credits the LA duo's luscious "Fanshawe," swelling from polite, plinky ambience to ardent aggression in mere minutes.
