Grime Time plays Saturday, Jan 5 at the Bug Jar.
Grime Time guitarist and frontman Shane Bates (who also fronts Triglactagon) plays thrashy riffs with the perfect balance between precision and crunch. Unsurprisingly, Grime Time doesn't fall too far afield of Triglactagon's hybrid of thrash, surf, and punk, but the bands are by no means interchangeable, and the differences between the two are what make Grime Time just as exciting to watch. For one, Grime Time works in a two-piece format, which opens up the sound but also makes for a less-is-more heaviness. Drummer Shaft Money (he swears that's his new legal name) has a muscular approach that brings out a greater aggression in Bates' playing.
