It's a musical Luddite's dream: a set of huge bells you play by pushing wooden handles with your fists. The U of R's Hopeman Memorial Carillon urges students and teachers to class all year long. In the summer on Monday nights, visiting carillon masters show off just what they can do with 50 huge bronze bells. Spread a blanket on the grass near the Rush Rhees Library. The carillon is up in the library tower. Japanese master Toru Takao performs Monday, July 9, at 7 p.m. Eastman Quadrangle, UR River Campus. Free. All ages.
