Well, there are some aliens, and those aliens are in the attic. Presumably they are unwelcome. Starring a bunch of kids, Doris Roberts, and Andy Richter. DP

So, yeah, there's these aliens, and they're in the attic at the start of, well, "Aliens in the Attic," a lame, predictable family adventure that chronicles the zany hilarity that never actually ensues as a dull gaggle of cousins try to stop ugly little CGI blends of a gremlin and a frog from taking over the rest of their vacation house, then the planet. Stock characters include the geeky hero, the bitchy sister (played by Ashley Tisdale from "High School Musical," ostensibly the tween draw here), the scummy boyfriend, the sympathetic moppet, and many clueless adults, who must be kept in the dark about the imminent invasion since, conveniently, only those under 18 are immune to the alien mind control.

Wasting the improv-honed talents of Kevin Nealon, Andy Richter, and Tim Meadows should involve some sort of financial penalty being levied at director John Schultz, the man to whom you should direct your complaints for 2005's "Honeymooners" remake. The film's best scene finds sitcom matriarch Doris Roberts kicking copious ass in a "Crouching Tiger"-style showdown with Robert Hoffman as Scummy Boyfriend, who embraces the movie's thankless Wile E. Coyote role in a low-rent Jim Carrey kind of way. So if you can't talk your kids into seeing "Up" again instead, at least "Aliens in the Attic" drives home a valuable message about being true to oneself. Plus there's the air-conditioning.
