EVENTS: Main Game

Get in the Game

By Jen Graney on July 23, 2008

Not to get all glass-half-empty on you, but summer's speeding by, and that thing we don't want to speak of (six-letter word, rhymes with pool, not nearly as fun) looms not too far in the future. There's still a month to fill with activities, and in the words of my grandma, it's the perfect time to get outside and "blow the stink off ya." Rochester's Ninth Annual Main Game is one to add to the boredom-killing list.

Main Game's aim is put on by the City of Rochester Parks & Recreation Department to show parents all there is for kids to do in Rochester, not just during the summer, but year-round. The opportunities available at all the community centers are especially highlighted. This year, dance troupes, bands, and singer-songwriters join sports and talent shows to fill the stretch of Main Street dedicated to kid-friendly fun. It's unlike the other festivals around here, in that it showcases young talent, hosts competitions in sports like boxing and martial arts, and runs three-on-three basketball tournaments. There'll be all sorts of games, food vendors, and other kid-centered activities and attractions.

Main Game takes place Saturday, July 26, on Main Street between State Street and Plymouth Avenue 1-6 p.m. Call 428-5990 or visit cityofrochester.gov for more information.
