If you've got some spare canned goods lying around the house and kids who need something to do, head out Saturday, August 9, to the Cool Kids Can-imals event, where kids of all ages will be building sculptures out of thousands donated canned goods.

Starting at 10 a.m. in Sagawa Park (at the corner of Erie and Main Streets in Brockport), kids can watch six teams build sculptures in the streets out of collected canned goods, which will be donated to local food shelves designated by the teams. The Cool Kids organization will also be collecting canned goods at the event, and hopes to get 20,000 canned goods - 6,000 more than last year's total of 14,000 goods.

The sculpture contest takes place in the middle of another Cool Kids event, the 7th Annual Summer Block Party, which is one of the largest children's block parties in upstate New York. Block Party events include animal demonstrations by the Wowee Wildlife group, paper crane folding, music, magicians, mini golf, games with the Rochester Rhinos and Rochester Razorsharks, raffle prizes and more than 25 vendors.

Both events are free and open to the public. For more information about the Block Party, call Cool Kids at 637-3984 or visit their website at generationcool.biz.
