"So You Think You Can Dance" 2009: What is happening to my life right now?

Auditions, Round 2. This time we visited Miami and Memphis. The themes for the evening appeared to be tap, twins, and quizzical decisions by the judges. Tyce DiOrio was guest judge in Miami, and was a SUPER bitch (I loved it; I think he's a hack choreographer but his acid tongue is welcome any time), while the equally useless krump choreographer Lil C joined the panel in Memphis and generally spouted a lot of nonsense.

Again, I won't comment on every dancer who appeared on our screens. I'll limit it to the Top 10 most memorable auditions of the night, good or bad, in no particular order.

1. Janetta Manrara and Romulo Villaverde, amazing ballroom dancers who tried out last season. Janetta made it to the Top 40, but Romulo didn't even make it to Vegas. They were incredible last night, pulling out oodles of impressive tricks and demonstrating real energy and passion. It was a good decision to cut Janetta last year, because she got herself a makeover, and the two of them clearly practiced the shit out of the past year and a half. But thing is, Janetta is totally the star in that duo. Romulo is forgettable. And incidentally, I find Janetta annoying.

2. Shawam! Joseph Smith can actually dance! I thought he was a joke audition when he first popped up with his goofy shtick. He's like a popper with swish, and he was kind of hilarious, like a wacky neighbor from a 70's sitcom. He got sent through to Vegas, and although I can't imagine he'll make it far, I think he's kind of amazing. Shawam!

3. Erik "Silky" Moore is bringing tap back - him and at least three other guys we've seen the past two episodes -- and he's fantastic, even better than the guido guy from last week. He's so fluid and energetic. He pulled out the Moonwalk, the Worm, the Backwards Worm, and some pretty serious hip-hop. A great routine. I like him, and hope we see an honest-to-god tapper in the Top 20 this season. Through to Vegas!

4. Geo Smith did an African dance in a feathered headdress. It looked really cool and had a ton of energy. I don't think we've ever seen anything like this on the show, and I'm glad that it continues to expand its style repertoire every season. He even leapt right off the stage at the judges, which scared the shit out of Mary. After performing well in choreography he got sent straight to Vegas.

5. Marico Flake is a police officer who does the Memphis Juke. It's kind of a hip-hop/jazz/tappish kind of thing. He's clearly very good at what he does, but it's a limited style, and frankly I wasn't all that impressed by it. Visually it just did nothing for me. The judges sent him straight to Vegas without even doing choreography. Are you kidding me? There were so many incredibly talented, versatile dancers last night who had to choreography, and they sent some guy who does one teeny tiny subset of dance through without even seeing if he can take direction? Mind-boggling.

6. Caitlin Kinney, whose sister got through earlier in the episode, although we only saw a snippet of her. Caitlin is incredible. Fantastic body, great musicality, impressive technique. Her pirouette went on and on. She's probably my favorite dancer of the night. She's only been dancing for five years; that is incredible. Although she did gymnastics prior to that. She had hip reconstruction. Even more incredible. Straight to Vegas, and hopefully the Top 20.

7. Michael Prokop has a wonderful dad, a football coach who supports him fully. It was a literal "I love my (non-dead) gay son" moment. Michael was clumsy in his lyrical routine, but he definitely comes alive when he's dancing. He should avoid smiling, because he's hot when he's just standing there. The judges said he had "the strength of a hamster in a giraffe's body." Maybe he was just tired or stressed? He was sent through to choreography and eventually got a ticket to Vegas.

8. Evan Kasprzak is a jazz dancer who made Top 40 last year. He had great jumps, and energy, in a very Broadway-type number. He gives good performance and is cute as a button. Great audition. Straight through to Vegas. Then Ryan Kasprzak, Evan's older (and in my opinion, cuter) brother came out and did a tap routine. Another tapper! He's very good; this is a family that clearly loves old-school Broadway and vaudeville stuff. Also sent through to Vegas. I find those guys delightful.

9. Paris Torres is a pageant girl. I found her audition to be dull and unimpressive. She has clearly taken classes, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. She clearly knows how to work a judging panel, though, and they just fell over themselves telling her how beautiful and amazing she was. I don't get it. Going straight through to Vegas.

10. Lauren and Lydia Correra. ANOTHER group of twins. They're much more in synch than the other sibling duos we've seen. The one in the pink (Lauren) was markedly better than her sister, which the judges later explained as her giving more of a performance, while her sister focuses more on execution. I guess. I just thought Lydia was outclassed. If either one had done the routine solo I don't think it would have made a big impact. Sent to choreography, and after a little jerking around by Nigel, they both got through to Vegas.

TONIGHT: Auditions wrap up in L.A. and Seattle. SEX IS BACK! I hope he brings Mrs. Sex with him. Also, Holley's own Dancing Derrick. Ugh.

"Yes, it's Mrs. Sex!"

My god I love that woman. I loved the episode this week. I am eager to get to the Vegas week and more importantly to the top 20 where I can be bitchy.

I thought this was Bernies' gig?

I would love to be bitchy too....but I have to know people better. I don't even know the judges...is the one guy from the celebrity ball room dance...or is that just the 60's coming back to haunt me?

Oh Cathy. I agree. I need to know these people in order to give any valued opinions. The judges on this show are amazing. Mary Murphy and her screams are infectious. Just you wait until contestants start getting tickets on the "Hot Tamale Train."

I wasn't with the progam so I didn't get to see this. I did tape Thursday's!
