"American Idol" 2009: The search is over

To be honest, I skipped most of the evening. I decided to catch the surprisingly entertaining "Top Model" clip episode and just flipped over during breaks. Here's what I caught: more "Simon is old" jokes with lame photoshopped pictures, Flo Rida making Pete Burns both filthy rich and incredibly sad, Kellie Pickler doing her best howler monkey impersonation while "singing" her (actually decent) new song, and Anoop, Lil, and Scott ending up in the bottom.

That's about right. Scott and Lil definitely deserved to be there. Anoop was just unlucky enough to be in the middle of the pack, and at this point with dwindling numbers, even the middle is in danger. Lil got sent back to the seats -- I hope she takes this as a kick in the ass, because she's been limping through this competition so far -- and ultimately Scott got the cut.

It was fitting that Paula's speech to Scott at the end basically came down to "People watch 'American Idol' to see inspiring stories like yours." Funny, I thought people watched the show to see good singing. And Scott certainly wasn't TERRIBLE -- I mean, he's no Megan -- but he was definitely the worst singer left in this competition. I do think that he is inspiring, and I bet he's a really great guy. But this isn't "American's Next Top Nice Person," it's a singing competition, and he hung in there for a while. But he never really lived up to his early potential (are you paying attention, Lil?) and he's in a season with Gokey, Kris, Allison, and Adam. I mean...it just wasn't going to happen. But he had a good run.

I don't remember who was standing next to Anoop when he was told that he was in the bottom 3. Did anyone else think that he was very indignant to that person? It looked to me that Anoop completely ignored the other contestants' gesture of a hand shake and "sorry, pal", and wouldn't so much as shake his hand or even look at him. He walked right past the guy and hugged and shook the hand of another contestant, on his way to the bottom 3 seat.

I could barely watch too. I really hate these pumped up elimination shows. And just wanted to see Lady Gaga again to make things interesting. Had to be Scott to go...and think it is about time. Didn't like the 'drama' of the judges trying to decide how to manage Scott., Although, I suppose that might be kind for him. Lil needed to see that she isn't the Diva she seems to think she is. jeeze...I sound cranky this morning!

Sam: I unfortunately missed that bit (Anoop had already been sent to the stools when I flicked over), but I can't say it surprises me. I've been seeing a real nasty attitude from Anoop for a while now, culminating in his reaction to Kara's completely accurate assessment of his Usher performance as a frat-house dare. Out of anyone this season it seems to me that Anoop has let fame get to his head, and he seems entirely too full of himself. But that's purely conjecture on my part. Maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see.

I think the comments on Anoop are completely unwarranted..even tho' he was good the previous night he still landed in bottom 3, which is entirely unfair. I do not think that he is being backed by enough people like other contestants who never hit the bottom even if their performance that week is abysmal..I think Cara is not fond of Anoop unlike Randy and Paula and she is always making unnecassary comments about Anoop..

Sorry I'm so late to the party.....

There is no reason for these hour long result shows. I'll admit freely that I DVR'd and watched the last 5 minutes. And what annoys me to know end is this. If you have two judges want to keep you... two judges can't decide... There's your answer... we aren't saving you. Why draw it out... Ryan stop asking for their thoughts, tell them you want an answer!! Ugh!
