Last night's "Top Model" was probably the least entertaining episode of the season. It did, however, change the game considerably from my point of view.
Clark got the boot, going from first to worst in the span of two episodes -- and she never saw it coming. Ha! I love it when that happens. Clark had two problems. First, her pictures weren't very good (although I thought the one last night was actually her prettiest), and second, she never embraced her role of house bitch. This show is obviously cast with the intention of certain girls filling certain roles, and it was clear from casting and the first episode that Clark was supposed to be the prime antagonist for this season. That just didn't happen. Like C9's Ebony before her, I suspect Clark put on a bit of a show just to make the cut. I'm sure that she's probably a spoiled, close-minded princess, but I don't think she's nearly as bad as the editing initially led us to believe. And since she pulled a bait and switch on Tyra (and us), and her pictures kind of sucked, she deservedly got the hook. You just don't mess with Tyra's plans.
But I will admit to being shocked, mostly because I'm addicted to spoilers of this show, and there's been photographic proof since before the season even started airing that Clark made it to the oversees location. I won't give you the web address (it's easy to find) or name the other girls in the photo, but Clark and four or five other girls are shown, post-makeovers, in another country. So when she went home in ninth place -- WAY to early to be a decoy, in my book -- that kind of threw me for a loop. The final six I'd been reading about since August seemed totally plausible initially, but I was starting to wonder how one girl in particular who has been crushing the photo shoots could possibly be cut before F6. Now it's looking that the info I had, even with the photo, is totally suspect. And that's awesome! I love being surprised. (Then why, you ask, do I look for spoilers to begin with? I am a masochist.) And Tyra got me again, god bless her be-weaved heart. In hindsight, though, I should never trust internet spoilers. Last year at this time people were saying it would be a Claire/Katarzyna final two, and that Whitney was always the next one to go. Oops!
Aside from that, it really was a dull episode. The major drama came from Marjorie being a spazz. And, like, we got that memo. I've always found her modelesque, but her home-school-bred social awkwardness is a real turn-off, and after last night everyone I watch with was totally done with her. Speaking of awkward, Paulina led the girls in a challenge where she taught them how to make shitty catalogue clothes appear marginally less shitty. I love Paulina, but the whole thing was stilted and uncomfortable. And the photo shoot sounded like a good idea -- the girls represent natural disasters, wreaking havoc on a model city set -- but only Sam (as a tidal wave) did anything interesting with it. They all looked pretty in their cute mod outfits, but none of them blew me away. Here's hoping they pick it up next episode. This season has been largely enjoyable so far, but, like poor Joslyn, who joined Clark in the Bottom 2 for a second lousy photo in a row, seems to be in a bit of a nosedive right now.
