Who is the best coffee roaster in the Rochester NY Area?

user thumbnail Jay replied on 06/17/09 1:08pm

I will start this review. I have been in search of the best coffee throughout the states. I have found that the best roasted coffees reside on the West Coast even though I live on the East Coast. I have tried coffee from FLCR, Canal Town, and a few other suppliers in the Rochester and have found that each lacks dimension, and prestigue in flavor. Many of the coffees I purchased were stale, under-roasted, lacked flavor, and were inconsistent in cup. Each espresso based latte I tried was overwhelmed by the flavoring syrups with no hint of espresso. The espresso's were too weak and lacked flavor. Please post the names of the coffee roasters you would recommend I try for my review analysis. It would be great to hear of a new supplier or an organization that is local and a great new find.

Thank goodness for lunch time. Great new topic. I have also been searching for great coffee in this area as I agree with much that you said Jay. This is likely why Starbucks does so well. I do have a new lead on an upcomer. I got the name from a friend who is opening a cafe in Spencerport that plans to carry this coffee in October for her opening. I tried the coffees at her home and they were Artistically Amazing in Flavor. The best I have ever had and fresh roasted. The business name is: Evening Star Coffee Roasters. They have a web-site opening soon at www.eveningstarcoffeeroasters.com. I believe they are opening in July-August of 09. You might want to try them.

Cool topic. I have to agree with many of the comments above. I rage for coffee as I attend St. John Fisher College. My home is in Seattle. I have found many of the local coffee suppliers to lack the roast I miss from Seattle. I checked the site Mary mentioned today and it shows it is coming soon on the opening page. I like the name Evening Star Coffee Roasters. I look forward to giving it a try.

I think the best I have tried is Starbucks and Carrots Coffee. In Rochester, it would have to be Starbucks. I am not a fan of them but they do have the best Caramel Espresso drinks. I am excited to hear of a new business. I would gladly convert to Evening Star Coffee Roasters if what I have been reading is on the mark. I support local and small business. I too see the web site is opening soon. I have it saved as a favorite. Thanks.

Funny how everyone is taking lunch b4 noon. Jacobs coffee is pretty good in Rochester. It's better than the so called local places I have tried. Does anyone clean at these coffee houses or do they just sit and put stickers on bags of coffee. I have a friend opening a cafe in Henrietta in Sept-Nov that is going to carry the escr coffee roasters coffee. I tried it and it is stunning. He told me the grand opening is soon. I saw pics of the place and it is amazing. They will do very well.

I like the coffee from "Coffee & Prayers". A small place in Rochester. They carry a coffee shipped in from VA called "Red Scouts Coffee Roasters". I do like to try new stuff though.

Lots of buzz on evening star......Great.
What I don't like is the place in Victor that roasts stale coffee. It's soooo bad I avoid it's name. I caught the guy working behind the counter of the beverage bar picking his nose. Yuk!@ No additives in my drinks. I am a customer lost for life! I look forward to giving evening star coffee roasters a shout. Cool dog....

Boy, comments seem slightly biased. Personally I've enjoyed great coffee in Rochester for years and am sending coffee to friends all the time from some of the local roasters. For a medium size city we have a wide range of coffee selections and we even have a roaster who has owned a coffee farm. Wake up and enjoy the brew!
